The story behind RadonFX

In early 2021, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, RadonFX founder Mike Jarvis saw an ad from a manufacturer showcasing a new type of pipe made specifically for Radon Gas. At the time Mike had the typical amount of knowledge about Radon Gas that most people in Southwestern Ontario do, which means he had heard of Radon Gas, but did not know what it was, where it came from, the health implications, or the fact that Southwestern Ontario was considered a “high” zone for Radon Gas.

Curious as to why a manufacturer would develop a new type of pipe, Mike started researching Radon Gas. After a long night of googling Mike made a few observations:

  • This is a serious health risk.
  • Nobody in Ontario knows much about Radon Gas.
  • There are no companies in this area that are dedicated to Radon Gas testing and mitigation.
  • This would be the perfect business – help people and make a living!

Within a matter of weeks, RadonFX was born and Mike started the path to gaining the knowledge he required to be able to test and mitigate Radon Gas.

Bio of founder Mike Jarvis

Mike grew up near Owen Sound and started his first business at the age of 19. For over 20 years Mike owned and operated several businesses, first in Owen Sound and later in London. His businesses were centered on designing, renovating, restoring, and building bathrooms.

For the last 11 years, Mike has been working in the residential mechanical industry and has in-depth knowledge of heating/cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Mike founded RadonFX with the goal of raising awareness about the dangers of Radon Gas and being the company to go to for testing, mitigation, and new home construction Radon rough-ins.

From the founder…

I really enjoy helping people which is why this business is such a great fit for me!

We all deserve to know if our homes are safe. I figured out how to make Radon testing both credible and affordable. A lot of companies in this area charge 2-3 times what we do for in-home tests and many are using short-term (2-7 days) tests which are not recognized by Health Canada as a viable test.

I’ve also discovered that I really like visiting people who have bought their first home. I get to help them understand how their home works! I will spend however much time is needed to go through their home and explain how their mechanical systems work. From heating/cooling and ventilation to electrical and plumbing systems. It is gratifying to be able to help people know where their main water shut off is or answer questions like “what’s that box hanging from the ceiling”? (its an HRV)

Accreditation
